Exploration Drilling
The company has more than 60 years of experience in drilling exploration holes. Drilling services include:
- 150mm core holes – Instrumentational holes for DWAF
- BQ core holes
- NQ core holes
- HQ core holes
- PQ core holes
SA Rotsbore completed exploration projects for the Department of Water Affairs, the City of Oudtshoorn, the City of Cape Town, and various exploration projects in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Hole depths vary from 50m to 1000m.
DTH Drilling
SA Rotsbore has a wealth of DTH drilling experience, and the combined experience between directors and senior management is well over 100 years! Drilling services include:
- DTH Water holes for the private sector, sizes ranging from 5” – 12” drilling.
- Large diameter dewatering holes for the mining sector. (Sishen Mine)
- Specialized DTH holes for Eskom’s underground coal gasification project. This drilling was done to a depth of 300m whereby a specialized thick wall screw in the casing was installed and grouted to seal any potential gas leaks.
RC Drilling
Drilling services include:
- Reverse circulation for the mines (6″ – 12″)
- Big diameter Reverse circulation (17.5”,15”,13”) with depths of up to 150m.
Mud Rotary Drilling
Drilling services include:
- Mud rotary for water hole sizes ranging from 4” – 22”.
- Big diameter 22” Mud Rotary in the Cape Flats.
- Large diameter production holes.
Flood Drilling
Drilling services include:
- Reverse fluid drilling was successfully done with tri-cone sizes ranging from 6” – 13 ¾” with depths of up to 952m into the TMG (Table Mountain Group formation, Peninsula).
Hydraulic/Water Hammer
Drilling services include:
- SA Rotsbore drilled very successfully with this system with diameters ranging from 5” to 8”. Holes drilled range from vent shafts for the mining sector to deep production holes with high water yields, the two deepest holes drilled with this system were 1001m and 1018m. this was done in highly abrasive sandstone and quartzite formation.
Grouting
Grouting services Include:
- Gas: Sealing 300m of casing for a gas project.
- Artesian: Sealing of casing in preparation for artesian conditions to a depth of 800m.
- Dam Foundation: Grouting upstage and downstage on curtain, blanket, and consolidating grouting.
Test Pumping
We do a wide variety of Test Pumping from 3000lts/h (0.83lts/s) to 288 000lts/h (80lts/s) with depths ranging from 30m to 200m
